Unfortunately, we didn't do so well. I was looking for something pretty specific that others would be likely to snatch up quickly. I saw two plastic swing and slide combos between 8-9am, but they had already been sold! Darn. Hannah did get an outside play tent for $5 that will also serve as a sunshade and a bee costume that she won't fit into for a few more years. Nana found some children's books. Hannah got pretty fussy getting in and out of the carseat, so she was dropped off for Grandpa to babysit.
Back at home after her nap, Hannah threw a huge fit and wanted only me to hold her. It turned into an hour long power struggle with Mama and Daddy laying down the law. I'm determined that she won't get what she wants when she throws a fit. We're just waiting for her to stop, and then she'll be rewarded. After half an hour of screaming inside, we decided to go outside on a blanket and let her scream outside so we could enjoy the beautiful weather while waiting for the fit to end. It took another half an hour for her to calm down. We ended up spending a wonderful afternoon together playing on a blanket in the backyard as a family. We got out the baby pool, talked to Kevin's parents via web-cam, and enjoyed ice cream. Hannah decided that the lush April grass wasn't so bad after all, and she crawled around in it for the first time.
I talked with Hannah and we looked at each other in the eyes for very long periods of time. She thought it was the funniest thing to put her pacifier into my mouth today, and she laughed great big belly laughs when I made sucking sounds with the pacifier. She understands what we say so much more every week. It's amazing. We're working very hard to use "nice words" all the time at home to avoid having a toddler with a potty mouth. When she looks deep into my eyes and touches my mouth, it makes me want to be the best person I can be.
The photos from today are below, and there's a little music to go with the photos. Little ones watch and mimic everything that we do. It's so hard to be the person that we want them to grow up to be.
Lyrics to "In My Daughter's Eyes" by Martina McBride:
In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me
gives me strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
It puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes
I see who I wanna be in my daughter's eyes.
This miracle God gave to me gives me strength when I am weak.
She put this dandelion in her mouth five seconds later.
I can't think of any song lyrics to go with Hannah eating dandelions. :)
She's able to eat so much better now that she has some top teeth.
We don't get to see the top ones much, yet.
Talking with her grandparents via web-cam.
Exploring the grass.
Our little bird loves ice cream.
Her dog likes the leftovers even more.
Sniff sniff. Enough happy crying for tonight. :)
Gorgeous blog re-design, as always. Good for you guys for not giving in when she fusses. I know you'll all reap the rewards for that somewhere down the road. If you haven't, you may also want to try Craigslist or freecycle for outdoor climbing toys.
ReplyDeleteGood for you-sticking to your plan! See-it eventually worked-it'll work more and more and soon she won't be crying for your attention!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics as always! Can you come to my house and photograph my family?!? :)

Good for your for laying down the law. I thought we were the only ones doing that - glad we're not alone. Blog looks fabulous, and the pictures are as gorgeous as ever.
ReplyDeleteI just love coming over here and reading your "MAMA" posts.
ReplyDeleteas bad as I hate to admit it..Once you get to Number 6 you sometimes forget to sit back and enjoy every little detail of each little person.
The dandelion picture made me think of my oldest daughter, Hannah.
She would "TOUCH" everything to her lips..but she would not put anything in her mouth.
Kids are hilarious.
You just wait until she starts making words!
Caleb's first phrase was " AW CAP" or as his MAMA would say..AW CRAP!
Ya know..they never pick up stuff like" I love you sweet baby"..what's up with that?
PS
ReplyDeleteI am ALL for THE LAW LAYIN'.
You do not want to have some bratty kid that no-one wants to see coming.
xoxo,
A
Beautiful!!!! :-D
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah, what precious moments are these!!! You are a wonderful Mommy to lay down the law! I speak from experience with my two pumpkins, it works! Love to you all and may God bless you with many more dandelion days!
ReplyDeleteooh...we have to go shopping when you come out! We can hit the garage sales too! No big ticket items for you though! Hannah looks like she is getting so much older...her hair is growing like a weed!! Just beautiful...did you cut bangs on her yet or not? What did you decide? Love the new blog look...very fresh! Pediasure is definitely bulking baby boy up...I can tell already...it's definitely de-bulking the old budget though! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteKB! So glad to hear that A is suckin' down that pricey Pediasure. HC is eating a lot right now, and I'm looking forward to the next peds appointment so she can be weighed again. I might consider adding some Pediasure if skinny mini's still not gaining. She pooped two days in a row this weekend from all of the goodies she ate, and that NEVER happens. Yes, HC's face is changing and she looks much more like toddler HC and less and less like my baby HC every day. She had her second hair cut with us a week and a half ago. I'm trying to let it grow into a shoulder length bob with no bangs. We'll see how that goes. I like her hair pulling the front to one side with a clip. It is easy and works for me. Daddy's getting the hang of clippies as well. She's pretty good about leaving them in, except when she's in the car and boredom sets in... then she takes them out on her own. I'm liking this blog format as well. It lets me change out the header and background and not have to mess around with html or changing things in the sidebar.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the laying down the law! Sometimes I feel like I need a cops uniform to wear on the tough days!
ReplyDeleteThat song makes me tear up every time as well... what a sweet post. It is so beautiful to watch your relationship with your daughter develop. Thanks for sharing it with us. Hannah is one of those amazingly gorgeous children from those that aren't seeing her through those magic momma's eyes too... you are very blessed!
ReplyDeleteHi.........first time posting.I love garage sales! But when you are looking for specific things, use Craigslist. I swear by this great online website. Simply by putting keywords of what you want in the search engine, so you don't have to literally look thru 100's of postings.
ReplyDeleteI have saved a ton of money by using Craigslist.
By the way.....You are awesome photographer. I love you website. You have the most amazing photos. :)
