no licks!

"No licks!" is a phrase that you'll hear around our house a lot these days. We're trying to break Sedona of her licking obsession. She doesn't lick herself, just people. She'll lick your toes, your face, your ankle, your hand, and even the pillow that you sleep on because it smells like you. If you lay down on the floor, she thinks it's time for a "lick fest" and that you laid down just so that she could lick you all over. I really don't want our baby learning to crawl, walk, etc. to be subjected to these "lick fests." Sedona is really a good little dog, minus the never ending supply of kisses. We're just too well loved by our dog. Suggestions welcome.

  1. Oh my gosh, I wish I knew! I have a long-haired chihuahua who loves and licks too much! If you find an answer please post it!!

  2. My mom had a Lhasa Apso that used to lick her slippers. Mom worked nights as a nurse so would lay down for a few hours before work. Sadie would lay down next to her slippers and lick the insides for a good hour or two. They'd be a bit squishy when mom finally got up to go to work...

Cats have scratching posts... maybe a salty pair of slippers of his own would distract him? Other than that, maybe some animal trainer has some idea why dogs lick so much?

  3. Sorry can't give you many suggestions as we have one too. Zillia or "licker" as we call her never was broken of her kisses or licking of people. Landon did freak about her at fist and so she realized to stay away and not lick for awhile on her own. Now she gets him when he's not expecting it and he calls her "my zilly" and often runs around saying "where's my zilly?"! Good luck :)

  4. Sedona has to get the licking under control before HannahClaire comes home. We have a licker and Claire still gives open mouth kisses to the dogs....you get the picture. I am just hoping that dogs mouths REALLY are cleaner than humans. Congrats on the 4 month mark. You should check out my latest post about our process...I still can't talk about it.
