Day 6 (Kaohsiung and Kenting Beach)

Breakfast: Taro bun with egg and a tea egg.  Mmmm!

Most of our day was private, but know that it was a very very very blessed day.

I had hot pot for lunch for the first time.  Do not attempt hot pot for the first time while sitting next to a preschooler that wants into what you are cooking.  I freaked out a couple of times worried that Hannah would get too close when I wasn't looking and burn herself.

Would you believe that I lost a pound on this trip? We walked a lot... but it still surprised me. And then I remembered walking up a mountain near Sandimen pushing a stroller in torrential rains.  Must have burned off a couple of pounds and left them on the side of that road.

We worshiped with our friends at their bilingual church. Had much to be thankful for today.

It was getting late and raining very hard. We had planned to take a bus to Kenting, but decided to take a taxi instead. It was a long ride and pouring down rain. I'm glad that we decided to take a taxi so there wasn't the stress of making sure that we were on the right bus, and we didn't have to worry about trying to find the beach house we were renting in the rain... walking from the bus stop. It really wasn't that much more expensive than taking the bus. Unfortunately, we were uncomfortable with how fast our taxi driver was driving under the poor weather conditions.

Our taxi driver had a little trouble finding our destination in the dark with the address.  Once again, I'm really glad that we had our iPhones, Garmin GPS device, and I had looked at the map and photos of the outside of the place a lot to help the taxi driver (who spoke no English like most southern Taiwanese taxi drivers) find it.When we arrived at the beach house the owner had been worried about us because of the weather.  I felt badly, and wished we had called to let her know that we were on our way when when we would be arriving.  We thought it had been raining really bad, but I guess I didn't realize that even the Taiwanese thought this rain something else!  Here's a link to the beach house hostal's website.  Consider using google translator to translate the web page if you don't read Chinese.  Google translator helped enough that we could make reservations via the site.  Know that we had to pay the deposit online via paypal, and they don't accept credit cards.  We paid for the rest of our stay in cash.  They have two beach houses.  We stayed in beach house two which is a bit of a walk down the road.  If I was going to stay there again, I'd stay at beach house one which is closer to the beach and you'd be right there for the complimentary breakfast.  They served orange juice, coffee, waffles with chocolate sauce, and fresh fruit both mornings.  Our room was very clean, had a large flat screen TV with a lot of channels, wifi that worked well, had a small dorm sized refrigerator, hot pot, bottled water, toothbrushes, shampoo, body wash, slippers, and bath towels but no beach towels.  The area was all right. Businesses good, but sidewalks overgrown and had discarded items.  Sometimes there would be cars parked on the side of the road on the walk to the beach, and we'd have to walk on the road. With so many cars whizzing by, that made me nervous.  If one rented a scooter to ride around Kenting, this would not be an issue for you.  If we didn't have a child with us or if I had previously scooter riding experience, I'd for sure rent a scooter to get around Kenting.

Our room only had one bed, but I chose it because it had a small Hannah sized sofa that she slept quite comfortably on.
