September Update!

chinglingseptupdate

Words can't express how pleased I am to get this update, especially when I thought we'd been skipped, and that we wouldn't get anything until the end of October. I'm a little worried. At 8 months old, 5 months adjusted, I calculate that Ching-Ling is 3rd percentile for weight. The nannies note they are feeding her a little baby food now because she is so tiny. First time mama here is worried about her baby being so little.

P.S. In the middle of the night I messed up Ching-Ling's height and posted that she's 10 inches shorter than she is. (blush blush) Thanks to Julie for catching that. ACK! Graphic is updated with correct height now. Waiting for this girl is doing something funny to my mama brain today.

P.S. If anyone was thinking about buying Hannah Claire clothing... this girl's all set from 6 months to 24 months. While waiting, I've done plenty of retail therapy to last us a long long time. So much that I'm too embarrassed to post a photo of her closet! I've gotten some nice e-mails asking where we've registered. We're registered at Babies R Us and Target. Thank you.

P.S. Another family graciously shared their update photos with me as Ching-Ling is in the background! Every photo is a treasured gift. Thank you so much.

  2. Try not to worry. Miranda was barely 16 lbs when we got her at 15 months. In 14 months she's now a whopping...21 lbs. :)

  3. Oh Sarah! She is so DARLING! I can SO see some more personality in these pictures! This is the hardest part... I know that your heart is acheing and you are feeling like you can't eat or breathe or even think straight at this point. Hang it there...
She looks more than fine and will be in your arms so soon now. Come on fast judge!!!

  4. She is adorable!! I wouldn't worry too much about her. Her weight is OK, especially considering that she is only 16"...16"!! She is going to be a small petite thing!

  5. She is SO cute! I agree not to worry about the weight issue... Drew caught up quickly once we got him home as well. He was 15th percentile at his first check-up in the US, and up to 40th by the summer. Drew was a preeemie as well, born 6 weeks early .

  7. "so stinkin' cute" is absolutely right! Oh my goodness! She is small, so I think you won't have to be concerned about any of the clothes you've "retail therapied" not fitting her. She might just be in 6 month outfits when you get her. And apart from weight and height, she appears to be thriving- look at those bright eyes and pink cheeks and all that hair! What a darling child...WHO JUST NEEDS TO GET HOME ALREADY! C'mon judge!

  8. Didn't I tell you a looong time ago how I thought she might have some "spirited" personality or what?! I think she just needs some homecooking (think Kevin and I doing homemade baby food) and some Hoosier love and she'll be just fine. Just look at her FACE. She is something special that girl.

  9. Sarah!! I am SO HAPPY that you got an update - and PICTURES! She looks wonderful! See, God wanted you not to worry so He sent you these beautiful photos of your little bugaboo. :) She's tiny but she doesn't look the LEAST bit frail or sickly. She'll catch up!! Especially when she comes home to mama and daddy's lovin' and good homemade baby food. :)

  10. Just wanted to let you know that both of our biological daughters were born premature and our oldest was still wearing 3-6 month clothes on her first bday! She looked hilarious walking around so tiny! She only weighed like 15lbs. Hannah Claire will catch up. Kennedy is now 8 years old and finally wears a size 7! But she is tall. Also, both of our daughters weren't even on the growth chart their first year! So no worries! She is beautiful and looks perfect!

  11. She is so adorable!!! I love her on her tummy!!! Laney was seven months old when we got our first pictures of her on her tummy and I remember praising the Lord that her nannies were taking care of her and giving her the "tummy time" that all my friends' babies were getting at home!! So happy to see your beautiful little girl!

  12. Sarah - She's adorable. And I agree with the others...try not to worry. In the photos she looks like she is thriving.

Hope you can go get her soon!

  13. Hello! I've been reading your blog for awhile as my baby boy is at SLC too. I received my photos today and also checked your blog -- I'm quite sure HC is in the background of 2 of my photos, looking very sweet and inquisitive! Shoot me an email if you'd like -- I'd be happy to share the photos. In any case, I'm happy my boy has such a nice playmate!

  14. So cute!! And more important than weight is how is she doing developmentally. She is holding her head up and looks to have good eye contact. SO that is great. 16 inches seems incredibly "short" are you sure that is accurate? But then that is based on US babies. I bet asian babies are a lot shorter. The good news is that her clothes will surely fit and for longer!!

  15. I know, 16 inches seems REAL short to me. Here's the stats in metric. OH NO! I just realized that I took her head circ. numbers for height. I was really freaking out too trying to figure out why she was so SHORT. Okay. WHEW! Feeling better here now. Instead of the 40.5cm that I thought she was... she's 62.5cm. 62.5cm into inches is... (calculating) 24.6 inches. WHEW! I'll be updating that photo graphic in just a second. WHEW!

  16. OH Good!!! That makes a lot more sense. That appx 10 inches makes a lot of difference!!!

  17. OH Good!!! That makes a lot more sense. That appx 10 inches makes a lot of difference!!! I feel better now and can imagine you do x 100!!!

She really is maybe the cutest baby I have seen on any Taiwan blog!!!

  18. Thanks, Julie! WHEW!!! Uh, yeah. 10 inches makes a big difference. (blush blush) All this metric conversion when you're nervous and excited can get to a waiting mama.

  19. What a cutie! Our daughter (from China)was also a premie, is almost 4, and is in 24 months. She is healthy as can be, just tiny. Hannah looks healthy, just little. :)

  20. Sarah,
She is so cute!! I know its hard but try not to worry too much. She's little but she doesn't look too skinny to me. I think I see a little roll forming on her right arm?!?!? :) She is a doll!

  21. She is SO very cute! As fellow preemies, my kids are all over the charts, too. At 4, my son is still in the 3rd percentile for everything and Jaden is 10% for height and head and not even on the chart for weight. Pediatrican said he's only concerned with H&H. Just fatten her up - no big.

Can't get over these latest pics. Gorgeous!

  22. OK!!! THESE ARE TRULY WONDERFUL PHOTOS!!!! just love them. I am so glad you got the upate! Don't worry yet about her weight and such. Jer has still not caught up but he is healthy according to doctors..lol..

  29. Sarah she is so beautiful!! I can't wait to read the post when you finally have her in your arms. Hang in there.

As for her weight and measurements, I've heard so many stories of babies stats reported incorrectly, and the parents going to pick up a tiny little one, only to discover that they are much bigger than reported. LOL!!

She looks healthy, happy and adorable!

  33. So sweet! She is tiny!
Our little Brodie was 14 lbs 25 inches last month at about the same age. He barely hits the US charts, but is much better on the Vietnamese charts.

You will have to fatten her up when you get her home!

  39. She is soooo cute!!! I love how her personality is showing in all the pictures. I am laughing so hard right now because of the height thing!! That is so funny--you silly girl :) Don't worry about her weight. Alea wasn't even on the charts!! She weighed 14 pounds at a year old!!! She is healthy, just tiny! Hannah Claire looks healthy and she looks to be developmentally doing well!!

  40. Yay! New pictures!!! So your good on clothes but what about bows? Hmmm... I think your gonna need a lot! LOL!

I can't wait til you guys travel:)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Haha, Sherry. Just you wait. Miss HC has a hairbow and clippie organizer all ready to go. I just pray that she lets me keep them in her hair!

    ReplyDelete
  42. If she's healthy don't sweat her size at all! Also, are you using U.S. standards? I understand there are special height/weight charts for Asian children, as they tend to be smaller.

    ReplyDelete
  43. OK Sarah, so we brought Lucy to the doc today for her checkup. She weights 18 lbs 6 oz at 20 MONTHS! She is tiny, tiny, tiny! BUT she's hitting milestones WAY ahead of time and so active and great. So don't let the weight get you down. That being said, I do know what it's like to worry being so far away and it's your right. We're here for you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. She looks wonderful, healthy and well cared for!
Our daughter is Vietnamese, born at 2.6 pounds and weighed 11 pounds at 7 months old. She is now 20 months old and very healthy, developing normal and smart as can be. She is small but catching right up and can wear 12-18 month clothing for the most part. She is amazing.
