My girl needs a closet

My girl needs a well organized closet. Her nursery isn't very big, so the closet needs to be able to contain a whole lotta clothes (cough cough... I just might enjoy buying her new clothes now and then), toys, and supplies. We visited Lowes tonight to do some research, and then went home to measure the closet and plan the layout with the help of the ClosetMaid website. Our plans this weekend involve painting the closet a fresh neutral coat of paint, then purchasing and installing the system. No nights out on the town, and no dim sum adventures this weekend. Just two wanna-be parents with paintbrushes, screwdrivers, saws, frustrated over confusing directions, and whole lotta hope for good things to come. I still can't bring myself to paint the nursery walls yet. If something went wrong, I couldn't stand painting over pretty walls meant for our daughter.

  3. Yep, the wonders of the do-it-yourself closets. Ikea also sells some great DIY closets (and kitchens ;)

Was that a little negativity I see there? Fight it off! Everything may be taking longer than you thought but it IS going to work out.

  4. We live in the cornfields and soybean fields of Indiana, and the nearest IKEA is like 3.5-4 hours away. We need more IKEAs in the US! :)

  8. Future conversation between HC and Mom:

"Mom, I have NOTHING to wear!"
"But Hannah, you have a gigantic, custom made closet full of clothes."
    "I HATE ALL THOSE CLOTHES!"

(Hannah mumbles) "Geez Mom, don't you know anything?"

The point to this exercise? Soon enough, the closet will still be there... but this wait will be a very, very faint memory.

I think Andrea's right - fight the negativity... it's a daily struggle, isn't it? (I will take the same advice)

  9. I'm always touched by how much love you shower upon this little girl whom you haven't yet met - but hopefully will soon (at least through a few pictures).

  11. Sarah, nothing is going to go wrong!! But I understand being hesitant to paint. I also waited quite a while to decorate for both adoptions. Hannah Claire will have a nice closet - wow!

  12. Your day is coming soon... do NOT let go of that hope you talked about. And by the way, there is nothing wannabe about your parenthood-- it's in your heart! That's quite obvious!!
    Be blessed,

  13. Oh...I had a dream last night that you were referred your little girl... she was gorgeous with a ton of hair and had eyebrows (most babies don't have big eyebrows). Anyways, at the risk of sounding crazy, I had to let you know!

  14. Sara/Sofa, Wow... you had a dream about my babygirl? I've only had one baby dream and Hannah was a little black toddler with braids and she spoke FRENCH. It was really strange. Maybe in my dream FEC got us confused... and thought that we were in the Haiti program and not the Taiwan program??? Anyway, the FRENCH really floored me in my dream... and then I woke up!

  15. Projects are so much fun, preparing for your little one. I say paint the nursery. But I totally understand, because as you know we didn't buy one thing until we got our referral, and good thing b/c all her stuff would've been blue!!!

  16. Hi Sarah,
I love your blog and design! It's probably time for me to ask for some help! I'll email you privately for that...
Looks like you had a great time in Chicago. Maybe Chris and I should do that too! Your time is coming very soon for your referral, I just have a feeling it is right around the corner!
