I've been reading about baby carriers this week, and all sorts of good things about "baby wearing" to help in the attachment when baby comes home. I have two styles picked out, a sling and a mei tai. For those of you with baby carrier experience, let me know what kind of carriers you like, don't like, and why.
These slings are at Monkeybuckets. I've been looking for a good site that makes slings for awhile. Thanks to Andrea for the link. My favorite fabric sample is this pink and brown mod flowered pattern.
I'm really excited about the mei tais at BabyHawk. I've read from lots of parents that they like them because they distribute the baby's weight over a larger area and that they're easy to unwrap when putting down a sleeping baby. This site has oodles of fabric choices. My first fabric choice is this red Asian flowered print. Without telling Kevin what I liked, I had him take a look, and he chose the same red flowered print! How cool is that? Even better, BabyHawk mei tais also can be made reversible so you can have two fabric choices. Now, how cool is that??? I think I'll pick out a mod geometric print for the other side. They also can add pockets to stuff a few diapers in, and loops for baby toys. Obviously I'm pretty excited about these.

I'm loving all the fabric choices.
ReplyDeleteI would really recommend that you consider the hip hammock. I bought mine on line and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I've used all sorts of front carriers and even back pack carriers with my kids, but the hip hammock was what I used for over two years with my youngest and wish I would have known about it years earlier! It is just so much more user-friendly than anything else I ever used and my daughter loved it, too.
ReplyDeleteWe used a Bjorn for Jia when she was little and that worked great until she was about a year old. We use the Ergo all the time for her now. It's a front carrier, sling or backpack. It is better for bigger kids. All the weight is on your hips. It's super easy to put on and we can take it off when she's sleeping and transfer her to her crib without an issue. I tried slings and such when she was littler and always felt like she wasn't that secure. But many people like them so maybe I wasn't doing it right! I suggest trying on some of your friends' carriers first. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI would strongly recommend the Ergo. We have a Baby Bjorn, Mei Hip and Ergo, and the Ergo is by far the most comfortable. We usually walk Lauren to sleep in it.
ReplyDeleteThis is great info! We got travel information in the mail the other day...I can't believe we're already this far, and thi swill definitely help us make some decisions on how to best carry Reed. Thanks! abbey
ReplyDeleteNice finds! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 slings from http://store.attachedtobaby.com/ They are both pretty good but Kobi was 24lbs on "Gotcha Day" & the cute silk wrap version I bought had an adjustable brass loop which never stayed in place. I ended up using the basic black sling & it was hard on my shoulder after awhile. I say try the Mei Tai. Those look much more comfortable on the shoulders!
