Taipei Times reports Angelina Jolie adopting from Taiwan (April Fool's Joke???)

Here's an article in the Taipei Times that reports Angelina Jolie plans to adopt a 4 year old aboriginal Taiwanese girl. Wow. I'm not sure quite what to think, except that now I could get even more strange adoption comments. I've already had a couple of people jokingly ask me, "Who do you think you are? Angelina Jolie?" Here is another article in the Taipei Times about adoption in Taiwan. Added 4/5/07: This news article may have been an April Fool's Day joke. See comments on this post.

  1. I never get the Angelina Jolie comment... and so far no one has looked at me and thought "Brad Pitt". *shrug*

Interesting how fast she can get these adoptions going. I haven't been paying attention but it seems like she's adopted a few kids in the time it's taken us to process just one adoption. If she got a referral in January, then she might be traveling in June/July...

Hualien is a real nice place to visit. That side of Taiwan is quite scenic.

  2. Hey Sarah...
I have gotten the Angelina Jolie comment too....quite ignorant of people, which is unfortunately what so many people are when it comes to adoption. Here's to educating one person at a time!

  3. You know - I haven't seen this reported elsewhere, it was put out on April first and the girls name (蕭凱婉) is Hsiao Kai-wan. Turn the name around to Kai-wan hsiao... and it's a homonym for "to make a joke" (different characters but the same sound).

    Hmmmm

  4. Yeah I just told hubby about that one last night..his reply"she better not get a kid before we do"...ummm too late. Oh well. It does kinda hurt to see celebreties get children fast and here we are aproaching 13 months.

  5. Makes you wonder if thats true?? I have heard the "Angelina comment" before...& you know what I tell people, "Whats wrong w/ her adopting??? If I'd have that bank account I'd do it to!" Children from all over the world... I think its great, maybe if we were Goodwill Ambassador's we'd have that kind-of turn around as well:)

  6. Oh Geez I hope not. I get the comment too. But I worry if she does this then it might bring negative attention to the idea of Americans adopting from there, and then it being closed. Also, I think she needs to let the kids she already had have some time to adjust. She is going to make adoption look like some kind of kooky hobby or something. UGGH.
