Tadpole Soup

If you haven't already read this family's Taiwan adoption blog, you need to. Check out the exciting things that they ate this weekend. Kevin and I draw the line at tadpole soup. No thank you. I'd try the squid, but I have a feeling I'd rather have the sausage and pineapple on a stick.

  3. Once, when traveling down the east coast of Taiwan (recommended - it's the mountainous and scenic side of Taiwan), we pulled over at a roadside restaurant for a bowl of something. It looked to be a bowl of short, white, thin noodles. Pretty tasty and the noodles were a bit "Q" (Q is a slang in Taiwan for food like noodles that are al dente in texture, maybe a bit crisp, crunchy...?). A whole tour bus of mainlanders pulled in and got themselves some noodles too. Popular spot.

Two-thirds of the way through I found a few clues as to what those noodles were. Those clues were the tiny little eyes and tails. I was enjoying a nice bowl of guppies-like fish. It was actually not bad. Not sure I'd add it to my vacation itinerary but it was worth trying.

PS. I think the "tadpoles" are actually tapioca...
