dog food and dinosaurs

Yesterday Hudson used his little fingers to try to pry open my mouth.  Good thing I looked before opening.  He was trying to feed me a piece of dog food!  Ew!!!

"Mommy, I drew you a dinosaur!"  I like the spikes on the dinosaur and that she used the whole page.  I asked her what kind of dinosaur this was.  She said it was one from the "Dinosaur Train" show.  Uhh... I think she should start watching the part with Dr. Scott the paleontologist instead of fast forwarding through his bit!

"Mommy, I drew you a dinosaur."

my future gastroenterologist

Untitled

Hannah doesn't request items in stores very often, but her daddy treated her request tonight to purchase an anatomy model. Hannah wanted to play with "bones and people's insides!". She tells me that our intestines are where our poop comes out, but not our peepee. My future gastroenterologist!

Today was a beautiful fall-like day. Welcome, fall!

my little schoolgirl

my little schoolgirl

Daddy said that Hannah cried a little bit when he dropped her of for her first day at her new preschool and she wanted to go home.  I took Hannah out for dinner tonight, just us girls, to celebrate her big day at her new "big girl preschool."  She admittedly cried, but said that she had fun and wants to go back next week.  All I could get out of her is that she liked listening to a book about sharks, and the snack consisted of apple juice, M&Ms, and rainbow goldfish.

I'll betcha five bucks...

Untitled I'll betcha five bucks...
that if we woke Hannah up right now...
and asked if she was sleepy yet...
she'd still say, "I'm not tired!"

thoughts on having two

We had our first post placement appointment today for Hudson.
Thankfully, the kids didn't cry or scream until the social worker left.
They were really good playing together all morning.
That means that they saved all the fighting, crying, and whining for the afternoon.

I think I've shared this before.  There was a time when I didn't want to have kids.  I only planned for myself and my career.  Then... I wanted a daughter.  Very very very much.  And we found her in Taiwan.  I certainly never thought we'd want to have two kids.  But it took so long to find our first child, that we made the smart choice to get in line for a second right away.  For a long time I wondered if we were doing the right thing
or are we going to mess up a good thing by adding to our family.  Today the kids tagged along with me while I used the edger outside.  They ran around and chased each other.  Hudson wants to do everything that Hannah does.  I love how he watches her, imitates her play, and repeats her words.  Hannah read S-T-O-P on the stop sign on our street, and told me that it spells stop.  Hudson repeated after her, "stop!"  I trim the grass around our fence with one eye on the kids.  He helps her be more physical, more social, more active.
She reins him in, preventing some messes, teaching him the rules to keep him safe.  The last two weeks have been so much better, and we're rounded the corner in our relationship with him.  Two was positively a good idea.  I wouldn't want it any other way.  I think our family is complete.  Good stuff.

Mr. Manners

Yesterday Hudson's new word was "joo," an approximation for juice. Today he told Daddy "thank you" after he was given a cup of milk. Hudson said something that's very close to "no thank you" when offered a bite of baked potato at dinner.  He started patting his diaper and saying "diaper" about a week ago. Love it! New words strung together and good table manners!
