Day 5 (Kaohsiung) - part 1 of 2
Day four was so bad, so a wonderful but very rainy day five made up for it. Started the day with a great breakfast.
Our gracious hosts help select some yummy items off the menu.
The Taiwanese call this toast, and that it isn't a sandwich. A sandwich should have three pieces of bread and is cut in sections. I don't get it either.
We went to a morning market to see how the traditional Taiwanese buy their fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and seafood.
The items below are prepared and ready to be put Ina hot pot at home.

We bought some Taiwanese pineapple all cut up in a little bag with two kabob like sticks to eat it with. Taiwanese pineapple is less tart and sweeter. Way way way better than Hawaiian pineapple. A taxi driver told us that 20-30 years ago Taiwanese pineapple tasted like that too, but they cross pollinated and worked very hard to create a less tart pineapple. Wish we could buy this at home!

ReplyDeleteHooray for a fun day, breakfast looked so delish! I think they get the 3 slices of bread sandwiches from us Brits its a very High Tea type of thing and they are cut into fingers or little triangles with the crusts cut off. You can get yummie ones in the food hall at SoGo, we even bought some for the plane ride home!

ReplyDeleteYummy, got to try that pineapple! It's pretty hit or miss here. Some sweet, some not so sweet. I'm so glad that it was a better day for you. Stay safe from the mudslides and floods!
ReplyDeleteyour journey is so fascinating for me, I dont know much about Taiwan (yet) so thank you for sharing so much, cant wait to get there and experience all these interesting things, the food especially looks soooooooooooooooooo yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteJust catching up on your trip. Vietnamese pineapple was MUCH sweeter than Hawaiian also. Smaller also.
