After five days on Omnicef, Hannah's ear infection med wasn't cuttin' the mustard. She's mopey, not eating much, tells us she wants something to eat and then doesn't eat it, and wakes up five times a night crying because she's so uncomfortable. Tylenol and the ear numbing drops help take the edge off her pain but she still really hurts. I called the pediatrician's office at 8:04am this Monday morning and secured Dada an 8:50am appointment. The pediatrician said that her ears looked the same as they did last week. We're going to try Augmentin this time, and we'll be back at the pediatrician's office on Thursday if there's no improvement. When I gave her the first dose, I knew it was chalky and would taste bad... even after watermelon flavoring was added, but I didn't expect crying, sticking out her tongue, and wiping her hands on her tongue to get the meds off. I couldn't help but laugh a little. Guess that's why people have kids, right? For their own amusement.
Kevin doesn't do well with less than nine hours of sleep a night, and I don't fall back to sleep easily. Hoping the yucky medicine is kicking in tonight and we'll all be able to get some rest.
So sorry Hannah is sick. Hoping she feels better and everyone gets some sleep!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Jia has been on Augmentin twice and it really did the trick...here's hoping it works for you all too!
ReplyDeleteTwo words:
ReplyDeleteEAR TUBES.
The single best thing I ever did for my son. He got them at 10 months old and I only kicked myself for not begging to get them sooner!!! Easy peasey and he never had another ear infection. He is now 10 years old!!
Julie, We don't qualify for ear tubes quite yet. This is only our third infection since we've had her... and we have no info on any previous ear infections. I'll asking for an ENT appointment if this continues.
ReplyDeletePoor Hannah! I hope she feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteTake it from a mom with a 4 year old whose had 4 sets of ear tubes and endoscopic sinus surgery and more antibiotics than I can count . . . Omnicef doesn't work. Our ped. even told me it is worthless. The Augmentin will work much better. Make sure to feed Claire a lot of yogurt with probiotics to keep her tummy okay. Augmentin is hard on the tummy. Hope she feels better soon.

ReplyDeleteOooh... sounds like tough times for your family. I pray she'll get better so that everyone can get some rest. Sometimes it's the lack of sleep that is the worst part of being sick.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of H.C., btw. Love the skin tones. Orange becomes her.
