My little bug's verbal lightbulb has turned on. She's trying so hard to mimic us and repeat back what we say. Hannah's digging positive reinforcement, and her eyes light up when she is praised. When Hannah's not mimicking, she's jabbering on... looking at us like she wants to have a conversation. You're right, Amy. It's magic!
Today was Hannah's first day of speech therapy. I was at work, but called on my lunch break to be able to talk with our therapist. Kevin reports that Hannah quickly warmed up to her. The first session was mostly an information gathering session for the therapist. We know have a little purple (How appropriate! Hannah can say purple!) speech therapy folder where we are to document her new words, when they were used, and if she said it on her own or was she imitating us.
Our first physical therapy appointment is on the agenda for Thursday. I'm really looking forward to the therapist's opinions about Hannah's walking delays. She's progressing, but so slowly. Since we've been back from our Colorado vacation, Hannah has just now preferred to walk instead of crawl at 17 months adjusted. Kevin reports that she climbed on the coffee table today for the first time. I could do without the climbing... just walking would be nice! (joke)
Aw! That's cool that she's talking! That's a much more important milestone than the walking in my opinion. Don't worry too much. She's a healthy, happy little girl.

The word folder is such a neat idea! Yes, it serves a purpose (tracking her progress for the therapist), but I wish I'd done this with my kids! In fact, being less than 2 weeks out from adding a toddler, I'm ashamed of how little I remember from our previous 3 toddlers! "What should she be saying right about now?" "What should she being doing right now?" I might as well throw it out the window, anyway, since you can't compare apples to oranges. :-)
ReplyDeleteHey! I LOVE the new pics and banner!!! I told you before, but you might not remember, I discovered your blog when I was researching China adoption. I fell in love with your photography of Hannah. She is just so darling and your work is great. At the time, I had no blog (still don't, and I should get one going so I can enter I love faces sometime!) but you wanted to check out what I do. Here it is, just a lil something I am working on! Take Care!

Yay, it sounds like she is thriving, just as always!! A similiar theme went around our message board and several folks recommended the DVD, Baby Babble....not sure how you feel about DVD for wee ones, but this one is supposed to aid with speech development. I have not used it, so this is second hand thinking here....LOL usually my best thinking btw ;)~
ReplyDeleteLOVE the pretty pic....look at those sweet bottom teeth!! OH, and found man on the coffee table too ( actually watched the whole climb!) and was not pleased...but then a certain kind of strange pride took over me that whispered, "look at him go!" even while I held my arms out to catch him just in case!! :) I'm ridiculous....awash in contradictions! Ha!
Keep us posted and yay for purple!!
Hang in there! Gracyn was walking, but not great when we brought her home at 2. At 3 she's able to run, but face plants all the time, and still needs help with stairs. They manage, and they get stronger with time! She only received OT, but now that she's had her IEP, she'll be getting OT, PT, and Speech.
ReplyDeleteBTW, that first picture of Hannah totally resembles you!!
A very exciting time! I'm so glad her vocabulary is beginning to explode. And the walking? The Tongginator didn't start trying until 18 months. It's good to check out, but sometimes they are just late bloomers.
