THE DAY - Psalms 118:24

This is THE DAY that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." - Psalms 118:24

Oooh boy. I'm switching back and forth between periods of extreme nervousness and then for awhile it feels so surreal. This is it? Am I dreaming? We were so tired after days of travel (saw lots of bananas, pineapple, betelnut growing yesterday! ) that we slept well after packing last night. I think Kevin literally fell asleep about two minutes after his head hit the pillow. I most likely only took five minutes. I woke up about 6am this morning and instantly knew this was THE DAY... and that there was NO way I would be falling back asleep.

I felt like a really bad mommy last night because I didn't bring a blanket with me for her to Tainan. She has a coat, and we have my coat so she'll be plenty warm... no worries there, but I should have brought a blanket. There are two in our suitcase storied in Taipei. No time to run out to Carrefour on a taxi for one. I know we'll be okay... I just feel a little inadequate, but know that's normal right now. I couldn't find Snow formula at Carrefour either. Hummm. If you bought Snow formula on an adoption trip in Taipei recently, let me know where you bought yours as a comment on this post. Grandmas, no worries... the nursery will give us some formula. I just want to buy more so we can transition her to a new formula more slowly once we're at home. Oh yeah, I've never mixed formula for a bottle before, either. This will be interesting!

Prayer request: Prayers for Hannah Claire that she won't be really frightened of us today. Prayers for me that I won't be a crying emotional mess. Kevin? He's my rock. I know he'll be just fine.

  16. EVERYTHING changes from this day on. Savor it, live it, love it. We are so very excited for you and will be stalking your blog for the news.

BTW - you can find Snow a) at the same store in Tainan where SLC buys their baby gear - ask one of the ladies there to write you a taxi card, b) at the Ding Ding Pharmacy in Taipei, the one that KB went to. She said she was successful there.

    WOOHOO!!! GO! GO! GO!

  17. As I post.. it is 30 minutes until you pick her up! Okay 29. I'm so thrilled for you. No "bad mommies", they don't exist... just good choices & oops I learned something choices, besides, she'll be fine (didn't you send ones in your care packages, I'll bet they will come back). Now you have to say 3 things nice about yourself.

Almost there!! For mixing a bottle... if you shake it, what for the foam to settle. If you use hot water, stir the formula in and it melts fast, then you won't have foam and air bubbles that give gas. Then pop that sucker in!

Best wishes Mama!!! Happy Mother's Day, Happy Father's Day & Happy Family Day!

p.s. My husband is a convenience store junky... he'd guess 7/11 for formula! ha ha

  18. We still have Meg's first blanket. See if you can take the one she is using now. It might be a good idea to get that one to help her in those first days.

Congrats and look forward to those pictures.

    Kevin

PS. I found a list of places in Taiwan that sell Snow Brand formula here: http://www.snowmilk.com.tw/

It's in Chinese but I will take a look later to see if I can find a place near the Grand Hyatt before you get back there or the place you are staying in Tainan.

    It is 9pm USA time!!!

    WHERE IS THAT BABY?!?!?!?!?!

  30. Please, please, please post pictures soon! We're so excited!

  31. You're right - you'll be fine without the blanket, and you'll be great making that first bottle! Carrefours has some cute formula dispensers! Much cuter than the ones here. And they have super-duper large ones too because the older kids require a lot of scoops plus oatmeal cereal mixed in. Okay enough already - sorry for my rambling! He is with you today, and He will be there when you're making that first bottle! We are with you too Sarah. Love and prayers flying your way!

  32. I'm so excited to see you and Kevin FINALLY with Hannah Claire!!! You'll be fine with the mixing of the formula, don't worry!!!

As for buying the Snow Formula, we got ours at a baby store that we were taken to (TWCA program), so I'm sure you can find some!!!

  33. I can't believe the day is here. Yipee!! I can't wait for photos!! You can buy a blanket at the mall next to the Landis!

  34. SOOOO excited for you!

When we got Willa we had them mix a bottle in front of us so we knew exactly how much formula and hot vs. cold water to put in there. (In her case it was a blend of both: x ounces boiling hot and x ounces room temp.) They also took us to the "baby store" to buy formula after we got her (but that was in Taichung). Can you ask them where they get their formula? Perhaps the store will be nearby.

    Enjoy!!!

  35. Hey girl :) It is 12 noon Taiwan time as I type this and here I sit WAITING for an update! :) I KNOW you have her in your arms by now and can't wait to hear all about it and see the pictures :) If you are at the Tayiah Landis in Tainan the mall next door should have a baby blanket if St. Lucy's doesn't send one with you :) I wish we had Noah's blanket. :) Next time I adopt I will bring a blanket to trade for the one my baby used at the orphanage. I AM SO excited for you :)

  36. Oh my goodness-- I have tears in your anticipation! My prayers are with you and Hannah Claire. I'm praying that you would not feel inadequate. Rest assured, my friend, God gave you ALL that you need for that little one for today. Be encouraged and strong. You'll have plenty of other opportunities for feeling inadequate later ;)
    Be blessed,
    Courtney

  37. Hi Sarah,
Congratulations on "The Day!" I'm so happy for you guys:)

You can buy Snow formula at a 'baby pharmacy' called Tin Tin.

The sign is blue with white writing and two of the chinese characters look like capital 'J's. The sign also says Tin Tin in english.

Enjoy your special day and congratulations on becoming a family of 3!

    love ya!

  39. The Snow Formula is available at what they call the "Pharmacy" - same place you'll be able to find the pacifiers. (If you happen to be using Steven the Cab Driver, he'll know the place!) Jessica of SLC told him exactly where to go and they have TONS of formulas so it may take awhile to find it, but the Snow is there!
Can't wait for your next update!!!

  40. I added the Tin Tin Pharmacy folks above mentioned to your map. Looks like it is a short taxi ride north of where you are.

    Hope this helps.
